During InfoComm 2024, AV Network caught up with Martijn van der Woude, vice president of global marketing and business development at Philips Professional Display Solutions (PPDS), to discuss the company's latest innovations and display technologies. The company showcased its mechanical and electronic innovations and discussed its partnership with Red Bull.

Philips is transitioning its LED displays to an all-in-one system on a chip (SoC), a feature already in its LCD displays. "With a remote control, you can control brightness and other settings. Plus, they have a soundbar included," said van der Woude. In addition, the setup and installation are easier for system integrators.

Philips has a longstanding commitment to sustainability, which grows stronger each year. "We are really committed now to getting the power consumption down of products," said van der Woude. "For the first few years, we focused mainly on certifications for using recyclable plastics, but today, we go deeper into the products with ultra-low power reduction." There is an ePaper product that is zero power. "And power means CO2 footprint, and that's what the market should expect."

Today, all Philips display products integrate with its PPDS Wave cloud-native platform for remote device management. "That means that our clients and system integrator partners get all the information and telemetry of a display, and also the setup becomes easier and reduces the amount of time people need to go onsite because everything can be done from a cloud perspective."

At Philips, we want to be in the highest level display technologies, and that's the common ground we have in that partnership."

Philips is in the third year of its partnership with Red Bull Racing. "I must say it's a dream partnership," van der Woude said. "Two companies in completely different markets and worlds in which they operate make strengths together." The spectacular custom-built, 10m2 portable Philips dvLED wall is just one of 17 Philips professional displays from PPDS that are used to transform the trackside hospitality experience for race day guests in the Oracle Red Bull Racing Paddock Club.  "It makes a much more visual experience on large displays which travel around the world to 24 races per year," van der Woude added. "Soon, we will open a very big, curved LED wall in the Red Bull racing factory, which will bring the Formula One experience for visitors to a much higher level."

The Red Bull partnership drives Philips to a higher level. "We're working on high brightness, outdoor TVs, for instance," he explained. "We're working on esports solutions for LED where you need a very high refresh rate. At Philips, we want to be in the highest level display technologies, and that's the common ground we have in that partnership," van der Woude said.
