Haivision Network Video has launched version 5.6 of its Furnace IP video system software, which offers new authentication, web video portal, and conditional access features, among others. In addition to providing users with a more powerful IP video solution, the new release also delivers compliance with the U.S. Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) for medical applications.
Version 5.6 brings to the Furnace IP video system direct support for user authentication, enabling the secure assignment of access privileges to live and on-demand video assets. The new version introduces a VF Conditional Access module that can be used as a stand-alone system or can be incorporated within an enterprise's LDAP or Active Directory-based authentication system. The new release also introduces a Web-based video portal that can be customized easily and a quick-launch feature for the VF Monitor multi-stream viewer.

For the medical sector, Haivision provides an end-to-end IP video system enabling healthcare facilities to be HIPAA compliant for IP video applications. HIPAA, which is the U.S. federal regulation designed to protect health records, mandates that any electronic patient information must be delivered within a 100-percent secure framework. Furnace 5.6 combines conditional access, end-to-end encryption, and the unique client/server InStream™ viewing technology that satisfies this framework. Furnace 5.6 also introduces the quick-launch of VF Monitor, which is ideal for the deployment of nurse's station viewers that can be securely launched anywhere.
For the education and enterprise segments, Furnace 5.6 includes an easily customizable, Web-based video portal. Integrators or end users can apply the look and feel of their organization to the Furnace portal through the quick application of Web template files. Furthermore, since the new VF Conditional Access module can be integrated with any directory server that supports LDAP such as Blackboard and other learning management systems, it enables institutions to limit and control access to video-on-demand content for Fair Use and TEACH Act compliance.
