- LAS VEGAS, NV-While videoconferencing seems a growth market on paper, contractors are often heard to complain that manufacturers do not take the professional AV channel seriously when it comes to selling and promoting their products-preferring instead to target IT or telecom dealers.
- In a sign that this might be about to change, Tandberg, the Norwegian-based provider of telepresence and HD videoconferencing solutions, has announced its first jointly developed product with projection and display specialist Barco.
- The new custom solution combines Tandberg's C90 Telepresence Engine and HD cameras with Barco's XDS Control Center software suite-a multi-window display package that runs on a variety of Barco platforms, including LCD panels and single- or multi-channel projection systems.
- Explaining the rationale for the new partnership, Fredrik Halvorsen, Tandberg CEO, said, "As decisions become more complex, they often involve input from a larger number of experts and data points. Together with Barco, we are simplifying tele-collaboration for industries that rely on co-operation between multiple facilities to share and review complicated data."
- "We believe our desktop integration can render decision-making and collaboration between remote teams more user-friendly," added Michel Vandeplas, president of Barco's Presentation & Simulation Division.
- "Tandberg's ultra high-definition 1080p video allows teams to see remote colleagues in natural, lifelike detail, and they still have direct and easy access to the data they need to discuss."
- The combined tele-collaboration solution will be available from the third quarter.
