NEW YORK, NY-LG Electronics will be bringing its new line of high-end plasma and LCD flat-screen HDTVs to New York City's fashionable downtown at two spring events: the Tribeca Film Festival and DIGITAL DOWNTOWN, a new technology showcase to be held June 12-14 in the New York City Financial District. According to Tim Alessi, director of consumer electronics product development, LG Electronics USA, the event marketing opportunities were selected to showcase the company's new flagship lines of plasma (PG60) and LCD HDTVs before an upscale, design-conscious audience.
"Design plays a huge role in the way consumers select their HDTVs," Alessi explained. "Technology keeps getting better and better and it is getting harder to differentiate by picture quality alone. We have taken a lot of care, in terms of design, development and customer research, to make sure our sets look as good turned off as they do when they're turned on."
LG's high-definition technology will be featured in June on the main floor of DIGITAL DOWNTOWN technology showcase at the World Financial Center, which is adjacent to Tribeca, Battery Park City and the Downtown Financial District.
As Signature Sponsor and the "Official HDTV" of the Tribeca Film Festival (April 23 – May 4), LG will be providing more than 100 flat-screen HDTVs and Blu-ray Disc players throughout the festival and the red carpet area. LG also is sponsoring the festival's renowned Encounters Screening Series.
"Our marketing is definitely focusing on the high-end of the market, and our goal with these two activities, at two prestigious locations, is to solidify LG's position as a premium brand. We have models at different price ranges but all with premium styling and premium picture quality that are designed to be best in class at any price point."
The two New York events will complement an extensive television, print and online marketing campaign to support the line's introduction throughout the spring and summer months.
The PG60 plasma line features a single-layer design, with no raised bezel and a polished, sleek look from every angle. At only 3.1" deep, the LG60 has the distinction of being the thinnest plasma TV currently on the market. The PG60 series' "Full HD" 1080p resolution and THX Display Certification assure the consumer of a more immersive experience with movies, games or television programming.
The LG60 LCD series, meanwhile, sports a unique black front, red back, silver base with red accent color scheme, in a slim 2.4" deep cabinet. Also offering 1080p resolution, this series features 120Hz TruMotion technology for smooth motion reproduction, even with fast action. All LG models this year provide a unique, invisible speaker system, which uses the front cabinet to create a large, rich sound and a wider sweet spot for both stereo and simulated surround.
LG Electronics's display will be a featured exhibit at the DIGITAL DOWNTOWN consumer technology showcase in the Winter Garden, the architecturally acclaimed "lobby" of the World Financial Center, the corporate home of American Express, Merrill Lynch, Dow Jones, Deloitte & Touche, New York Mercantile Exchange, Fidelity Investments and Mass Mutual. The Winter Garden is within easy reach of over 350,000 workers in Lower Manhattan and 15,000 residents of nearby Battery Park City and Tribeca.
