DALLAS, TX--In Texas, the new Dallas Cowboys stadium has opened its doors with an audio system that includes Community Professional’s weather-resistant R-Series loudspeakers, along with iBOX and CLOUD in-ceiling speakers.
Systems consultants WJHW designed the system, which includes a selection of powerful R.5 loudspeakers on the exterior lighting poles. Community i2W8 full-range two-way boxes ring the main seating bowl, providing under-balcony fill, with CLOUD12 compact coaxial loudspeakers installed in the Club Lounge ceiling of the main concourse. Bay Area-based ProMedia/ UltraSound provided the system’s installation.
As WJHW's Kevin Day explains, the R.5s are mounted on the lighting poles that illuminate the building’s exterior. “We selected the R.5s for their weather-resistant design,” says Day, “and the architect was pleased at how well they match the lighting elements.
“We were very impressed with the quality control and consistency of the Community R.5,” added Demetrius Palavos, ProMedia / Ultrasound’s senior project engineer. “And we were equally impressed with Community’s ability to customize the speakers to our specifications without affecting the project’s tight lead times.”
The CLOUD12 speakers were selected to cover the high-ceilinged areas of the two Main Concourse Club Lounges, while the i2W8s are employed in the seating bowl. “We chose the i2W8s for their wide coverage angle and high output level,” says Day. Additional i2W8s are installed in the stadium’s two “Silver Level” clubs, behind a black grille cloth flanking the video displays and in soffits.
Day also offers high praise for his colleagues at ProMedia/ UltraSound. “The ProMedia team was a big factor in the success of this project,” he reports. “They understand large system designs, and deliver the skills and willingness to do whatever it takes to make the systems perform to everyone’s satisfaction.”
