Circuit City Stores, Inc. announced September 11th that Peter C. Weedfald has been named senior vice president, chief marketing officer. Weedfald joined the company in 2006 as senior vice president, general merchandise manager for entertainment/ content. Before joining the company, he served as senior vice president, sales and marketing, U.S. consumer electronics and North American corporate marketing for Samsung Electronics America, a marketer of consumer electronics, information systems and home appliance products. Prior to joining Samsung in 2001, he served as chief operating officer of Bigfoot Interactive, a provider of email communications solutions and marketing automation technologies. Previously, Weedfald held several senior positions including executive vice president of corporate communications and emerging business, executive vice president of marketing and strategic business, and senior vice president of global marketing at ViewSonic Corporation, a worldwide provider of advanced display technology. Prior to joining ViewSonic in 1998, he served in various senior publisher positions at Ziff-Davis Publishing, a leading integrated media company serving the technology and videogame markets, for nine years.
"With his knowledge of the consumer electronics industry and his strong record of results in building the Samsung brand, Peter brings a unique set of skills to take Circuit City's brand to a new level," said Philip J. "As an interim step, Weedfald's merchandising responsibilities will be split between John Kelly, senior vice president, general merchandise manager for technology, and Randy Wick, senior vice president, general merchandise manager for audio and video.
