DM-MD8x8 distributes full 1080p HD video long distances over either copper or fiber without signal loss. Crestron DigitalMedia™ (DM) is a new transport technology that processes, manages, and distributes all analog and digital signals, including HDMI 1.3a, DVI, HD-SDI, composite, S-video, component, VGA, simultaneous HD stereo and 7.1 surround sound audio, SPDIF, Ethernet, USB control, and power over Cat-5e or multimode fiber. At the heart of a Crestron DM system is a DM switcher.
Crestron’s DM-MD8x8
The DM-MD8X8 features a modular architecture with 8 input card slots, and 2 quad output card slots. Each card slot on the DM-MD8X8 is field-installable, allowing for easy and flexible system configuration with the ability to make changes to the system as needs change.
A wide selection of DM input cards is offered to support a complete range of digital and analog AV signal types. There is even an HDMI input card with a builtin DSP to simultaneously output multi-channel surround sound to an auditorium and provide a 2-channel down mix for stereo audio to an audio distribution system—HDMI cannot do that natively. One or two output cards may be installed to feed up to 8 DM receivers using either DigitalMedia Cable or Cres- Fiber fiber optic cable. DigitalMedia allows for cable lengths up to 450 feet, using DM Cable, 1000 feet using CresFiber. HDMI outputs are also available for direct connection to centralized audio processors, video monitors or additional DM switchers to expand the system up to 40 outputs.
The DM-MD8x8 manages the flow of all data, including HDCP, EDID, and CEC between the switcher and DM repeaters, transmitter and receivers. The system will function properly upon power-up, but Crestron also supplies user-friendly setup and diagnostic tools accessible through the DM-MD8X8 front panel, or via DM Tools software, for troubleshooting and system commissioning.
