Grenoble, France -- Early this month, DiGiCo licensed the EtherSound networking protocol for current and future products, and days later Whirlwind also acquired an EtherSound license for its E Snake and other digital-audio-over-ethernet products.
AuviTran, an EtherSound Authorized Implementor, is working closely with DiGiCo to add EtherSound network interfaces to the D5 and D1 console lines. DiGiCo's choice was driven by present and projected technical performance as well as customer demand. "We wanted to expand our connectivity with other devices," explained DiGiCo marketing director David Webster. "We've already got analog, optical, AES/EBU, T/DIF/ADAT and others, so regardless of what you want to plug into, you can. EtherSound is appearing on enough devices to make it a strategic addition to DiGiCo consoles in any signal chain."
The rapid proliferation of EtherSound-enabled digital consoles was a key factor behind Whirlwind's decision.
