- Omnivex announced that they have won the sole digital signage award presented in Sign Media Canada’s National Sign Competition, for their software installation at Vancouver Convention Centre. Omnivex, a Microsoft Gold Certified Partner, has been developing enterprise-level software for digital signage networks since 1991. Omnivex software is used at the Vancouver Convention Centre to manage a network of over 170 LG and Panasonic screens throughout their newly expanded facilities.
- Winners of the competition were selected in nine categories.
- “Submissions arrived from across the country. Our judges reviewed all eligible entries based on the entry's merits in terms of originality, creativity, appearance and design suitability,” said Peter Saunders, editor of Sign Media Canada. “The competition this year attracted projects of a higher calibre overall, truly capturing the best of the best in Canadian sign making. In this highly competitive field, there were some very close finishes, so we must congratulate all entrants on the fantastic quality of work this year,” concluded Saunders.
- The harbour front facility recently underwent an extensive expansion project that more than tripled the available space, and included the addition of Omnivex digital signage. To help guests navigate the facility, 37 to 60 inch screens were installed outside each of the 72 meeting rooms and in hallways between the east and west buildings. “Omnivex software was selected for its ability to easily manage a very large network of screens and because it could interface with the existing event management system,” said Gregory Davey, associate director Olympics, IP and broadcast services, GM convention centre services, Bell Canada, who manages the digital signage network for the Vancouver Convention Centre. The meeting room and convention scheduling information is automatically displayed on the appropriate screens throughout the buildings using Omnivex software to pull the information from the Vancouver Convention Centre’s Event Business Management System (EBMS). Information only needs to be updated in the event management system, and the Omnivex software automatically formats and displays that information on the appropriate screens throughout the facility. During the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games, the facility will also serve as the international broadcast centre for all media relations at the Games.
- “The Vancouver Convention Centre digital signage installation is a great example of our software’s ability to drive costs out of business operations, by automating many processes associated with managing such a large real time digital signage network,” said Jeff Collard, president of Omnivex. “It is an honour to be recognized in this national competition, especially given that there was only one award presented for digital signage,” concluded Collard.
